A smashing time in St Austell

For more than forty years Cornwall Glass has been supplying the West Country with a range of glass products, all delivered with the attention to quality and service which the company has set at the heart of its operation. Its vision is “to be the first place people turn to for all of their commercial glazing requirements” so we were really pleased that when the roof on one of its premises began to fail, Cornwall Glass turned to Pellow Roofing for a solution.

The original flat roof on Cornwall Glass’ St Austell premises was more than twenty years old. Over the past five years a number of repairs had been undertaken. However with the roof still failing the time had come for the entire roof to be replaced.

As is common on larger flat roofs, particularly those above business premises or at the top of multilevel residential buildings, the smooth running of the roof was interrupted by a number of protuberances. Any solution therefore has to take account of these protuberances and be capable of safely waterproofing around them. For this project the design also had to take account of the renewal of five roof lights.

The chosen solution came from the Danosa range of waterproofing products. Like Cornwall Glass, Danosa has more than forty years experience in its chosen field. It’s a product supplier which we at Pellow Roofing use on a regular basis and for a range of applications. In this instance we opted for a Danosa built up felt system topped by a Polydan mineral cap sheet. One of the advantages of the built up felt system is that this product is a cold applied semi adhesive layer, meaning that it complies with the safe to torch campaign.

By contrast the Polydan top layer is a non-toxic, non-flammable waterproof sheet which is treated with bitumen. The combination of the two products enabled us to deliver a waterproof roof with a twenty year guarantee. Following completion of the work Cornwall Glass posted the following on its Twitter account:

Thank you to the amazing @pellowroofing #team for doing such a great job at our St Austell branch #newroof

We were pleased to help and wish Cornwall Glass every success over the next twenty years and beyond.
