Green Eco and Biodiverse Roofs
Rising rapidly in popularity, Green Roofs can add a special dimension to your building. Whether you opt for a sedum roof or an exotic garden, the addition of greenery will enhance your environment as much as it gives pleasure. Dependant on architect’s specifications, all of the Flat Roof systems offered by Pellow Roofing can be incorporated within a Biodiverse Roof design.
Green, Eco or Biodiverse roofs are ones in which the roof space has been covered with living plants. Subject to weight considerations these plants can vary from mosses to lawns and from plants and shrubs to a wildlife meadow. Whatever the choice, Green Roofs can add a focal point to your outside space.
Other advantages of a Biodiverse roof include:
Environmental
The living plants trap water which would otherwise be allowed to run off into our waste systems. In times of heavy downpour, the water captured is stored and then released more slowly, thus alleviating flash run off problems. In addition the plants trap pollution helping to keep the air fresher and cleaner.
Heat management
Studies have shown that plants actively cool buildings by bringing shade, through lower heat absorption and evaporation. Studies by the University of Cardiff in 2007 showed that green roofs can reduce ambient temperature in urban areas by between 3.6°C and 11.6°C dependant on the region. This without affecting the warmth of a building in the winter.
Sound insulation
By their very nature, the layer of plants and soil make an excellent sound barrier, perfect for those homes and buildings which are close to busy roads or on aircraft flight paths.
We work closely with architects and builders to design the optimum solution and can provide suggested roof plans for any scenario.
