Refreshing Ayr in St Ives

Paved balcony walkway in front of houses

Mention St Ives and what do you think of?  Is it the beautiful beaches which every year draw thousands of visitors to swim, surf, or simply enjoy the golden sands?  Perhaps wildlife is your thing with the nearby seal colony attracting boatloads of tourists. Or maybe it is the vibrant art scene which since the mid-1800s has inspired painters and sculptors alike; making the town the ideal resting place for one of only four Tate galleries in the world.

Tate St Ives may gather the headlines but it’s not the only refurbishment project which has been making an impact in St Ives recently.  And whilst the Tate extension attracted thousands of visitors on its re-opening day, our own more modest contribution has resulted in firmer footing for residents of one particular residential development.

Ayr Court commands a key location within St Ives but unfortunately its residents had experienced waterproofing issues for many years, due to the construction of its walkways. In order to remedy this they identified a need for a walkway refurbishment which would not only remedy the waterproofing issues but also provide a hard wearing and durable surface.

After considering a range of options, Westwood liquid applied waterproofing was the product of choice. Not only did this provide the waterproofing and durability required, our ability to deliver a two colour Wecryl system finished with deco chips meant that the appearance of the walkways was considerably enhanced whilst providing a good non-slip surface.

One of the benefits of choosing Westwood liquid applied waterproofing is that the product has a high level of weather resistance, being able to withstand both high and low temperatures and remain durable even with prolonged exposure to UV rays. This makes it a good choice for the Cornish summer. The product also has good fire resistance, an important consideration when looking for products to be installed within a residential complex.

In fact, not only is this product suitable for walkways in residential developments, it provides a cost-effective solution for areas of high traffic such as car parks where the multi-colour options can be deployed to mark out parking spaces. Its nonslip properties could also make it appropriate for use in projects which require a durable and safe surface such as kitchen flooring or corridors which experience a high footfall.
