Secure Retirement
As you’d expect from a flat roofing company working in and around one of the most beautiful counties in the UK, we are regularly asked to carry out flat roofing and waterproofing work on some fantastic Cornish buildings. One of our latest projects has proved to be more arresting than others, roofing a new building situated on the site of the old police station in Truro.
Described on the BBC News website as iconic but not cost-effective, the old police building had reached the end of its useful life therefore time to retire it and move into alternative premises. The site was acquired by Churchill Retirement Living, with the old police station being knocked down and replaced by more than 50 one and two bed retirement apartments.
The new building was designed to be as elegant and stylish outside as it was inside and incorporated a unique roofing design element with barrel roofs creating a wave effect. Pellow Flat Roofing Ltd were chosen to partner with ICB Ltd to install the specified roofing system, namely the EVALON® V single ply system from alwitra®.
This particular system was chosen due to alwitra’s proven track record in waterproofing flat and low sloped roofs. International projects which have taken advantage of this system include the Esplanade Theatres on the Bay in Singapore as well as the Dornier Museum in Germany. Produced to the highest industry standards, The EVALON® range boasts exceptional longevity as well as being 100% recyclable at the end of its useful life. Other features of this product include:
- Good radiation resistance, always a plus when the sun shines in Cornwall
- Tested to have good fire resistance properties, an important feature in any building but particularly important in a retirement home
- Excellent thermal and mechanical properties and low vapour diffusion resistance, helping to regulate the internal environment of the building
