Enjoying the St Ives View

The old English riddle which starts “as I was going to St Ives, I met a man with seven wives” is perhaps the only way in which many people within the UK will encounter this beautiful corner of Cornwall. And yet, in an already beautiful county, the area around St Ives is truly magical. The St Ives tourist board website speaks of warm golden beaches and “cobbled streets, full of history, legend and tradition, winding between pretty fisherman’s cottages” contributing to “the kind of simple beauty that stops you in your tracks.” So we are always glad when we get the call to work on a flat roof in the St Ives area.

Our latest call to St Ives was to waterproof three balconies on a new contemporary eco-home. Designed by Studiowest Architects, the home aims to be near Zero Carbon in its daily use and makes the most of the available views and sunshine levels. Pellow Flat Roofing Ltd work with a range of flat roofing materials and for this particular project the Cefil RP 1.5mm system was chosen. Cefil’s aim is “to provide market leading waterproofing solutions, whilst enhancing Sustainability and Corporate Social Responsibility,” making it a good choice for application to this eco-home.

The 1.5mm Cefil RP system is guaranteed for twenty years and can be installed as a complete system on metal profiled decking, timber decking or concrete decking. The fixings include a telescopic tube fastener which has been designed to practically eliminate cold bridging; particularly important in a building design which looks to produce near zero carbon consumption. The fixings are also designed with a high quality corrosion resistance, an advantage in seaside areas where salt corrosion can play its part.

One of the other advantages of the Cefil RP system is that it has been engineered to withstand severe wind loads and extreme weather conditions so when the normally mild Gulf Stream air turns stormy the Cefil RP system has been designed to take the strain.

At Pellow Flat Roofing Ltd we are always proud to be asked to make our contribution towards the development and protection of Cornwall and its buildings. This particular project in St Ives gave us the chance to make our small contribution towards a stunning eco-home and to work in this beautiful corner of Cornwall.
